Great Britain beat Australia 2-1 in their final match at the Under-18 Women’s World Championship Division II Group A at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

GB finish the tournament in fourth place with 10 points from their five matches, which included victories over Turkey and Mexico.

Evelyn Brown made two good early saves from Courtney Mahoney and Elizabeth Marshall, while GB went close through Cassie McGregor’s shot from the left circle.

Australia took the lead when Marshall put away a rebound after Brown had saved Natasha Dube’s shot (8:28).

GB came out strong in the second period and Tahlia Davidson-Wright’s blast from the slot was saved by Amelia Knott.

Meeyah Forbes equalised as her shot from the right circle hit the post and deflected in off Knott (25:12) and Ellin Rees hit the post moments later as Britain continued to create the better opportunities.

Head Coach Angela Taylor made a netminder switch midway through the second period as Kayla Poole replaced Brown in the GB goal.

Poole was quickly into action as she saved from Phoebe Roberts and at the other end, Ellie Patrick was denied by Knott who then made a superb double save to keep out shots from Inez Brannan and Ruby Newlands.

Rees put GB into the lead as she waltzed into the offensive zone and fired through Knott’s five-hole (39:14).

Madison Smith replaced Knott between the pipes for Australia and made a good stop to deny Forbes a second of the night.

Australia had gone into the game already assured of the gold medal and completed the tournament with four wins from their five matches.

Latvia won the silver earlier in the day with 1 -0 victory over Turkey, while Netherlands beat Mexico 3-1 to secure the bronze medal.
