The Ice Hockey UK Referee Section have appointed Deana Cuglietta and Caroline Munroe to their management team.

The pair will take up the position of joint-managers of Level 3, responsible for under-18 junior hockey, Women’s National Ice Hockey League (WNIHL) Elite and WNIHL 1.

Colin Davidson, IHUK Referee-in-Chief, said: “Caroline and Deana bring a wealth of experience to the Ice Hockey UK Referee Section.

“Both have been officials working the top levels in the UK and have the passion, drive and desire to compliment the current management team.

“I’m excited to see them working with the next generation of officials coming through the programme.”

Cuglietta is a former Swindon and Milton Keynes player and a current Ice Hockey UK official.

She has 10 years experience with the IIHF working at tournaments across the world, including officiating the gold-medal game at the 2018 U18 Women’s World Championship.

“I’m excited to be given the opportunity to give back to the programme that has given some amazing opportunities and memories that I will cherish,” said Cuglietta.

“I want to share my experiences and help develop the officials of the future to be the best that they can be. I’m looking forward to working with Caroline as we share the same passion for the game.”

Munroe has been involved in UK ice hockey for over 30 years on and off the ice, starting a junior with Bradford before playing women’s hockey in Kingston and Sheffield.

She went on to officiate junior matches in the EIHA, as well as working the line in the old English Premier League. Recently, Munroe took up the lead manager role for the EIHA’s Showcase event.

“My daughter Felicity took up officiating last year and I saw the challenges that new officials coming through today are facing,” said Munroe.

“I’ve had the opportunity to spend some time with officials and officiating managers at events this summer and it has really inspired me to get back involved. I’d like to thank Colin (Davidson) and Michael (Evans) for the opportunity.”
