Press release from Scottish Ice Hockey

Following on from the recent announcement regarding changes within its organisational structure, Scottish Ice Hockey would like to provide some further information as the sport continues to move forward.

It is critical that a strong focus remains in relation to the operational side of the sport and as such the Scottish Ice Hockey Board and Management Committee have created the position of Head Of Hockey Operations within the leadership structure.

After a number of positive conversations, we are also pleased to announce that Jamie Thomson has been appointed to this new position in which his focus will be the National Development Program, oversight and development of Senior, Junior and Recreational Hockey across Scotland, the smooth running of Disciplinary processes and the advancement of our sport on the ice.

An SIH spokesperson said: “We are delighted to have Jamie on the team. He has always shown a keen interest and willingness to take an active role in the betterment of the sport and he comes with an undeniable track record of delivery complimented with extensive knowledge and experience of our sport.”

Jamie added: “After coaching, running teams and events within Ice Hockey for what feels like forever, I’m really happy to have been given this opportunity to help grow our game in Scotland. The Board have made some solid inroads since starting and I’m looking forward to working with them and the Joint Management Committees moving forward.

“The road ahead won’t be easy and we have a lot of work to do. I’m very aware of this but I would like to encourage anyone who has constructive ideas on any area of improvement in our game to send them in, moving forward we really need our members to buy into any changes and submit suggestions so we all pull together.

“It’s very easy to chat with each other around the rink on what we should be doing, if you have an idea table it for discussion and let’s work together to make our game better.”

Scottish Ice Hockey would also like to announce that the previously delayed SIH AGM will be scheduled to take place from 10am on 20th November 2022 at Murrayfield Ice Arena. Further information regarding this will be sent directly to our members in the coming days.

In co-ordination with Ice Hockey UK, it has been agreed that whilst we undergo the appropriate process to elect a new chairperson for the sport in Scotland, John Colley (IHUK Director) will take on the responsibilities of the Chairpersons role during this short interim period.

Ideally, we would like to ensure that a suitable new Chairperson can be considered for election at the AGM in November. SIH will also be continuing to progress its search for Independent Directors to join the board having already had some encouraging interest so far.
