Great Britain beat Poland 3-1 in an exciting game at a sold-out Planet Ice Leeds in part one of a weekend double-header between the two sides.

Part two takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham (7pm face-off).

Forward Logan Neilson made his GB international debut as did netminder Lucas Brine who was back-up to Whistle.

Poland made a positive start and Whistle had to be at his best to turn away three good chances for the visitors in quick succession.

Nathanael Halbert shot just wide from point while Liam Kirk did well to set-up a chance for Sean Norris who drove the net well but saw his shot saved.

Logan Neilson fired over from the left-circle as GB edged an end-to-end first period.

GB went ahead short-handed as Cade Neilson forced a turnover but saw his shot saved, before Josh Batch fired home the rebound from just inside the blueline (24:38).

Poland had a goal disallowed for goaltender interference while at the other end, Brett Perlini hit the base of the left-hand post on a late second-period powerplay.

GB scored their second on a five-on-three powerplay as Liam Kirk fed Perlini for a one-timer at the backdoor (38:52).

Cade Neilson superbly set-up Liam Kirk for GB’s third and his shot hit both posts before rebounding over the line off netminder John Murray (45:46).

Poland reduced the arrears late-on when they forced a turnover and Dominik Pas scored from close-range (55:32).

GB finished strong and sent the majority of the 2,000 crowd home happy.

The two sides meet again tomorrow (Saturday) night at the Motorpoint Arena (7pm face-off).
