Two more of the UK’s highly-respected officials were in action recently at the World Championship in Dumfries.
The Dumfries Ice Bowl hosted the Under-18 Women’s World Championship Division I Group B tournament, which saw France win the gold medal and promotion, Norway take home the silver and GB claim bronze.
UK officials Emma Sanders and Faye Andrews (pictured) were part of the IIHF officiating team in Dumfries.
Andrews said: “Overall, it was a great week. It’s always a privilege to represent your country with the IIHF and work with officials from other federations.
“Even though I have officiated at previous IIHF tournaments, this was my first World Championship assignment and it was made all the more special by the fact it was held in the UK.
“We had a great referee coach with us for the week, which made the whole experience more enjoyable.
“The atmosphere for the GB games was amazing and it was great to see people making the trip through the week to support the girls.”
Sanders said: “It is such an honour to be able to represent your country with the IIHF and to meet and work with other officials from all over the world.
“This was my first IIHF assignment and was a phenomenal experience, especially with it being held in the UK.
“The referee supervisor who supported the officials through the week was full of experience, which enabled me to develop as an official.
“Having the privilege to skate games with girls competing for their nation was brilliant. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I look forward to the future.”
Ice Hockey UK referee-in-chief, Joy Johnston, said: “It was fantastic to have two more IHUK officials at an international tournament.
“I would like to send my congratulations to them on an excellent tournament and it is great to see it means so much to them to represent the UK in these events.
“Once again, our officials have done the country proud and it is fantastic to see them performing on the world stage.”
