Great Britain began their IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship Division II campaign with a 6-0 victory over Mexico in Group A in Istanbul.

Ruby Newlands and captain Chamonix Jackson scored twice, while netminder Emma Nichols secured a 14-shot shutout.

GB took the lead when Jess Jones played the puck off the left boards to Newlands, who cut inside to fire past Miranda de Antunano (9:14)

A stretch pass from Chloe Needham-Potts found Ellie Wallace who fed Jackson and her shot squeezed in at the near post early in the second period (21:05).

It was 3-0 only 62 seconds later as Elouise Porter used her speed to break clear down the right wing and her pass to centre was met by Alice Jones (22:07).

Wallace and Needham-Potts then combined again – this time with a quick break up the ice – to set-up Jackson to score her second at the backdoor (34:48).

Newlands then netted her second of the evening as she pounced first to a loose puck in the offensive zone and produced a neat backhand finish past De Antunano (43:27).

Mirren Foy fed Lydia Walsh to complete the scoring as her shot from left point took a deflection to deceive De Antunano (59:04).

GB return to action on Wednesday when they face hosts Turkey at 20:00 (18:00 UK time).
