Great Britain beat Hungary 3-2 at the Motorpoint Arena in their final warm-up game ahead of the World Championship which gets under way in Nottingham this weekend.
It completed a double for GB over Hungary after last night’s 7-4 victory in Milton Keynes to go with a win and defeat against Latvia at the weekend.
Ben Bowns started between the pipes with Jackson Whistle as back-up.
Evan Mosey, Robert Dowd and David Phillips went close for a GB in a period of few clear-cut chances while at the other end, Bowns made a good save to deny Istvan Sofron.
In period two, Cade Neilson’s effort from the slot hit the crossbar before Josh Waller scored an outstanding solo goal skating from his own zone through the middle and firing past Bence Balizs (37:50).
Sofron equalised from the slot early in period three (40:24), while Liam Kirk was denied on a breakaway as GB looked to regain the lead.
Neilson tipped in Dowd’s shot on the powerplay (50:13) as GB went 2-1 ahead and Ben Lake scored into an empty net after Hungary lifted Balizs for the extra skater (57:54).
Csanad Erdely scored on the powerplay with a six-on-four goal as Balizs remained on the bench (59:31), but GB held on for another impressive victory.
With Great Britain winning the series, captain Jonathan Phillips was presented with the Coronation Cup which commemorates the coronation of King Charles this year.
GB get their World Championship Division I Group A campaign under way on Saturday against Korea (7:30pm).
