IIHF president René Fasel has issued a statement today after he and general secretary Horst Lichtner tested positive for Covid-19.

The pair were due to fly to Belarus to meet with the country’s president to address the multiple issues surrounding the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, scheduled to take place in Minsk, as well as Riga in Latvia.

However, both René Fasel and Horst Lichtner were informed that Covid-19 tests they had taken before their departure have been returned as positive.

The meeting with the Belarus president has been postponed until further notice. As a result of this positive test, a virtual meeting with the IIHF Member National Associations that was scheduled for this Friday will also be postponed.

Ice Hockey UK would like to send best wishes and get well soon to René Fasel and Horst Lichtner.
