IHUK Chairman Richard Grieveson admits that the relegation of Great Britain U20 is a massive disappointment but says that the current UK system is letting the players down and not giving them the best possible chance to succeed at international level.

Speaking to Ice Hockey UK Radio moments after the final hooter on Saturday in Budapest, Grieveson said: “Hungary revamped their junior development system three years ago and now their u18 and u20 players are playing 85 games a year in a highly competitive level.

“Poland are playing that u20 team in a competitive league and then our players back home are not getting the ice time and the opportunities.  As a governing body we need to look at how we develop the sport and how we provide our young, talented athletes with the best opportunities to perform and develop.”
