Great Britain junior forward Alex Graham has been selected by OHL side Niagara IceDogs – 105th overall – in the 2021 CHL Import Draft.

The 18-year-old Sheffield-born forward made five appearances for GB U18s, scoring two goals and contributing five assists for seven points.

The pandemic meant he has been unable to make any more under-18 appearances for his country, but he has already scored four goals and three assists for seven points in five matches for GB U20s.

Graham said: “I can’t wait to get going on this journey.”

Domestically, he came through the Bradford and then Sheffield junior system and scored over 50 points for Sheffield Steeldogs in the NIHL in 2019-20. He also netted once in eight matches for the EIHL’s Sheffield Steelers in same year.

Last season, he scored once in 16 games in the Steelers’ Elite Series campaign.

Meanwhile, English-born Leon Okonkwo Prada was selected by the WHL side Seattle Thunderbirds.

The Colchester-born 17-year-old, who is currently playing junior hockey in Sweden, was drafted 86th overall.

Bil La Forge, General Manager of the Thunderbirds, said: “Leon complements our existing defense corps.

“He plays hard in his own end and is not afraid to get his nose dirty. We looked closely at Leon for last year’s Import Draft and he is a player whose development we have monitored.”

The CHL is composed of three member leagues, the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
