Great Britain Women will take to the ice tomorrow in Sheffield for their latest training camp, with head coach Mike Clancy stressing there are still places up for grabs on the roster for October’s Olympic Qualifiers.

GB will play in the Olympic Pre-Qualification Round 2 in Gangneung from Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th October as they start their bid to reach the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

They’ll come up against hosts Korea, along with Slovenia and a qualifier from the previous round.

“I never came into this with a preconceived idea of what the team looked like,” said Clancy. “There’s still a lot of decisions to be made after this camp.

“We have not selected the team yet. We plan to get a real understanding of where the girls fit within the team and the style we want to play.

“We will be in a better place after Friday to select the girls who will compete for us at the Olympic Qualifiers.”

The camp in Ice Sheffield comes off the back of an extensive day of on and off-ice training in Nottingham earlier this month, which was the first time that Clancy led a training session since becoming head coach.

“I thought their response was absolutely fantastic,” added Clancy. “We talked a bit about the playing style we wanted to play.

“We want to be more competitive, more goal hungry and get some of those bits we have been missing previously.

“We had great conversations at the team meetings and it was a great opportunity to see the compete level when the girls were challenged. It was really good and really positive.”
