Great Britain have released eight players from their training camp roster today with the departure of defencemen Josh Batch and David Clements, as well as forwards Kieran Brown, Ben Davies, Sam Duggan, Sean Norris, Ross Venus and Brandon Whistle.

Brown picked up an injury ahead of camp while Whistle was injured during last night’s game with Hungary at Planet Ice Milton Keynes.

Assistant Coach, Corey Neilson, said: “The coaching staff have had some very difficult decisions to make.

“The competition for places is as tough as it has ever been and it’s clear there are some very disappointed players – and that’s understandable.

“The players released showed incredible grace and genuinely wished the team much success upon hearing their personal bad news.

“They are a credit to their families and have the heart and spirit of GB national team players.

“We still have a final decision to make and will now continue our preparations with our final warm-up game against Hungary.”

GB against Hungary gets under way at 7:30pm in Nottingham this evening for the second of back-to-back matches and the coaching staff will name their final roster for the World Championship Division I Group A on Thursday.

The six-team tournament – which also involves Italy, Korea, Lithuania, Poland and Romania – gets under way at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham on Saturday.
