Great Britain Under-18 Women were beaten 5-1 by Denmark U18 Women in their second game at the World Championship (Division 1B) in Katowice.

Aimee Headland went close in the opening stages for GB but they fell behind short-handed.

Maria Peters broke away and saw her shot well saved by Courtney Newitt, but the Danish forward put home the rebound (5:39).

Amanda Refsgaard’s powerplay strike made it 2-0 at 8:16 as Denmark ensured a two-goal first-period lead.

Shannon Douglas forced a good save out of Cassandra Repstock-Romme early in session two, but Kristine Melberg made it 3-0 when she put away a rebound from close range on the powerplay (26:14).

Debbie Andersen grabbed Denmark’s fourth at 45:43 before Headland netted GB’s first goal of the tournament (49:30).

Alberte Schlie wrapped up a 5-1 victory for the Danes when she scored on the powerplay at 57:55.

Emily Harris was named as GB’s player of the game.

Coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “The effort was there but we came up against a very good Denmark side.

“They were relegated from the division above last season and have a quality roster.

“At times, we matched them and it showed what level we have to reach if we want to make the next step up.”
