Netminder Ben Bowns says Great Britain’s showed character to beat Estonia 4-3 in overtime, but believes the performance was a wake-up call for the squad.

GB – who were playing their second game at the World Championship (Division 1B) in Zagreb – let a 3-1 lead slip and the tournament’s fifth seeds took the game to overtime.

Robert Dowd scored his second goal of the tournament to win the game for Pete Russell’s side with less than two minutes left in the extra period.

“We did show character to pull it out of the bag,” said Cardiff netminder Bowns.

“The best teams find ways to win when they have not played well and that is what we did.

“However, it was not a good performance and we can use it as a wake-up call.

“We need to be better and everyone in the squad knows that.”

There are no games in the tournament tomorrow, but GB return to action on Wednesday when they face Lithuania at 4:30pm (3:30pm UK time).

Lithuania top the table after two wins from two matches, including today’s 5-1 win over Romania.

Ukraine, who were relegated from Division 1A last season, are second after they beat hosts Croatia 4-1 tonight, while GB sit third.
