Sean Alderson has been named as assistant coach of Great Britain Women.

The 46-year-old will link-up with new head coach Mike Clancy and fellow assistant Jeff Colton.

Alderson spent seven seasons as head coach of GB U18 Women between 2008 and 2015 and twice led the side to a medal.

He guided GB to a silver in Asiago in 2012 and promotion to Division 1 Group A, followed by a bronze in the Division 1 Qualification group in Dumfries a season later.

Alderson has coached in the England and Conference programmes and is currently head coach of Coventry Blaze’s NIHL 2 side, as well as being head coach of the Coventry Blaze Academy.

“I am delighted to be back working within the GB programme,” said Alderson. “It’s a privilege and an honour to be representing Great Britain again.

“Having worked with Mike previously when we coached the England Under-16 boys together, I am really looking forward to linking up with him again. He’s a great coach who I have a lot of respect for.

“I am also looking forward to working with the players again, most of whom I have worked with previously in either the England or GB Women’s programmes.

“Like Mike has already mentioned, it’s an exciting time for GB Women as we start preparing for the Olympic Qualifiers in Korea in October.”

David Hand, Chair of the GB Programme Board, said: “Sean is a very experienced coach and, of course, is no stranger to the GB set-up.

“I think he’s the perfect fit to complete the coaching staff and I believe we have the right trio to take the women’s programme forward.”
