Great Britain Universities Men were beaten 12-0 by Canada in their opening game at the World University Games in Krasnoyarsk.
Period scores of 0-3, 0-7, 0-2 saw Canada secure victory in Group B.
Head coach, Matt Bradbury, said: “I was pleased with a lot of what I saw out there.
“Canada are the tournament favourites and I was proud of how the lads kept their heads up.
“They won’t face many tougher games than this in their career and we can take a lot from the game.”
GB return to action on Monday when they face Switzerland.
