The 2018 IIHF High-Performance Camp took place at the Sport Institute of Finland in Vierumaki last week and there were eight attendees at the event from the UK.
IIHF members from nations ranked in the top 28 of the women’s world ranking were invited to send some of their top U18 players, coaches and staff to the camp.
The attendees from the UK were Geoff Hemmerman (team leader), Cheryl Smith (coach), Nicci Wardell (coach), Louise Capps (manager) and Saffron Allen (sports therapist), along with players Emily Harris, Jessica Sprules and Ellie Wakeling.
Geoff Hemmerman said: “Friday saw the final games of the camp, the camp photo and the conclusion of the leadership presentations.
“It was also another long day with the coaches having breakfast at 6:45am and the closing ceremony not taking place until 8:30pm.
“The GB contingent were fortunate that our bus did not leave until 9:45am the next day, so breakfast could be taken before we left.
“Speaking with the IIHF, it was clear they were pleased with camp and from their perspective it has been very successful.
“They said that it was great to see Great Britain take up the opportunities these camps produce, including the building of relationships with like-minded nations
“The return trip went well for the GB contigent and everyone was back in the UK around 3pm where the players meet up with waiting parents.”
