Defenceman Jonathan Weaver says Great Britain must not get ahead of themselves with two games remaining in the World Championship (Division 1B) in Zagreb.

GB’s 8-0 win over Lithuania yesterday moved them into second in the six-team group.

Pete Russell’s side now end the tournament with games against Romania tomorrow and finally Ukraine on Saturday, who are top of the table with nine points from three matches.

Romania, who were promoted from Division 2A last season, are bottom of the table without a win in the tournament.

“It’s an old cliché but you really do have to take each game as it comes,” said the Telford Tigers blueliner.

“You have to give Romania the respect they deserve.

“They are at the World Championship and they have to be treated accordingly.

“We need to go out there tomorrow businesslike and hopefully put on a performance.

“We need to get a win and start thinking about Ukraine after that.”

Weaver, who netted his 20th international goal in the opening-night win over hosts Croatia, had special praise for 21-year-old Ross Venus, who grabbed his first GB goal in last night’s win.

“The first time you score a goal is really special,” continued Weaver.

“It was a great moment for him and I am sure he is going to remember it for a long time.”

GB are back in action tomorrow when they face Romania with a 1pm face-off (12noon UK time).
