Ice Hockey UK have received confirmation that the under-16 tournament – due to take place in Latvia later this month – will now be held in 2021.

Great Britain Under-16s were set to go head-to-head with teams from Belarus, Finland, Latvia, Russia, Sweden and Ukraine in the True Riga Hockey Cup from 17th to 19th April 2020.

GB U16s head coach, Mike Clancy, said: “Myself and the coaching staff are disappointed for the youngsters who won’t get to experience an international hockey tournament this year.

“It is great news that the competition will now take place next year and we can start our planning now for 2021.

“The players had worked so hard to prepare for their trip to Latvia and it obviously frustrating for those involved.

“However, the health of everyone during this coronavirus pandemic is the most important thing.”
