After a gap of 391 days because of the coronavirus pandemic, top-flight ice hockey has returned today.

Four teams – Coventry Blaze, Manchester Storm, Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers – are competing in the 2021 Elite Series at the National Ice Centre.

The event has been organised under the government’s Elite Sport Guidance, with regular testing and a full covid-19 protocol in place.

Today’s opening fixtures see Manchester taking-on Coventry (2pm) and at 7pm, it’s Nottingham against Sheffield.

Ice Hockey UK chairman Clifton Wrottesley said the federation has given its full support to the series and will be working in partnership with the EIHL to make it a success.
