Great Britain Women’s head coach Cheryl Smith says Sunday’s camp at Ice Sheffield was good preparation as the squad continues to get ready for their opening game in this season’s EIHA U20s Cup.

GB, who will meet again next month for a warm-up game, start their cup campaign against Coventry Blaze in December.

Former NHL’er and current Sheffield Steelers defenceman Aaron Johnson joined the coaching staff on the ice to help with the training session.

Smith side are undergoing preparations for next year’s IIHF World Championship in Spain.

“The camps are very important and the coaching staff are finding them very useful,” said Smith.

“Once again there was a lot of energy and commitment at the camp and you can tell how eager players are to make the squad for the worlds in Spain.

“As last year, these under-20 cup games will be fantastic in helping us prepare for the important World Championship.

“There are a lot of youngster knocking on the door of the senior squad and it is exciting to see such talent in the women’s programme.”

GB Women will travel to Jaca for the six-team IIHF Division II Group A tournament from 29th March to 4th April 2020.

They will face hosts Spain, along with Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea, Latvia and Mexico.
