Head coach Pete Russell has stressed the importance of discipline from his side as Great Britain begin their World Championship Division I Group A campaign against Slovenia this lunchtime.
GB and Slovenia meet for the first time since 2012 in the tournament’s opening game at the Papp László Sportaréna.
Slovenia, who played in this year’s Winter Olympics and were relegated from the top flight last season, are the tournament’s top seed and are ranked 15th the world.
“We need to be consistent, disciplined and we can’t overcomplicate things. Every guy needs to be the best they can be in every game,” said Russell.
“We need great goaltending, discipline is massive and we need to execute in the offensive end when we get the chance.”
After today’s game against Slovenia, GB come up against Kazakhstan, Poland, Italy and hosts Hungary.
“They are all good teams here and there is no easy games,” continued Russell, who led GB to promotion from Division I Group B in Belfast last season.
“We have done it before and we can do it again. We have to dream. It is something I have always wanted to do. We are here and we are ready to go.
“For us, it is about controlling the controllables and working hard. Every game is tough and we come straight out and face a team who has just played in the Olympics.
“It will be great see how are compare but we have to compete and we will have to battle.”
GB against Slovenia is the first game of the tournament today and face-off is 12:30pm (11:30am UK time).
