Defenceman Davie Phillips says Great Britain cannot rely on other results if they want to win gold and promotion at the World Championship (Division 1B) in Zagreb.

GB take on current leaders Lithuania in today’s second game at 4:30pm (3:30pm UK time).

Britain go into the game on the back of a 4-1 opening-night win over hosts Croatia, which was followed by a 4-3 overtime victory against Estonia.

Phillips said: “The way the teams are and the way the tournament is, I think we need to win every game.

“We know that and we know what our goals are.

“We are now looking ahead to Lithuania. We need to beat them, dust that one off and move on.

“We can’t rely on other teams beating other teams and games going in your favour.

“We just have to do our business ourselves and that’s what we want.”

And Phillips knows this afternoon’s encounter with Lithuania won’t be easy.

“They are a tricky opponent to play against,” said Phillips. “But in my eyes they are a team we should be beating.

“We have lost the last two games to them but they are a team we need to beat.”
