Defenceman Ben O’Connor says his main focus is staying in shape and being ready for Great Britain, despite the uncertainty around the ice hockey world because of the coronavirus pandemic.

GB are set to play in the World Championship in Belarus in May and June next year, two weeks later than originally planned.

The Elite League announced a suspension of their 2020-21 season and it seems more likely that no top-flight hockey will take place in the UK this year.

The 31-year-old had signed in the NIHL with Sheffield Steeldogs, but their season is in doubt after the government announced regulations prohibiting indoor sport.

O’Connor spoke with BBC Radio Sheffield’s Peter Spencer about the current situation regarding hockey in the UK.
