Ice Hockey UK Referee Section held their second National Referee Conference in Nottingham last weekend, with over 230 officials from across the UK attending the two-day event.

The group were together for several keynote addresses including Kim Pedersen from the Denmark federation who went from IIHF Pool C in 1996 to hosting the elite World Championships this past spring.  Instructors from USA Hockey Nick Zaglifa and Derek Zuckerman spoke with the group, while former NHL official Greg Kimmerley worked with Level 6 officials.

All attendees completed the IIHF skating tests, while Level 5 and 6 officials undertook the IIHF standard fitness testing at Nottingham University sports campus.

With the new IIHF rulebook coming into use this season, each level had their own sessions on the new rules and new interpretations using IIHF video examples and workshops on the UK in-house rules where there are any differences.

Overall the weekend was a success with great feedback from the members of #TeamStripes in attendance and the guest presenters too.

IHUK chief referee Joy Johnston and deputy chief referee Michael Evans spoke with Ice Hockey UK TV after the event to give their thoughts on the weekend.  Click below to watch the video.
