Forward Matthew Myers says this weekend’s two games against Denmark is just the tough test Great Britain need as part of their preparations for the World Championship in Finland.
GB face the Danes in Coventry this evening (7pm) and at the National Ice Centre tomorrow (4pm) – at the venue of his domestic club, Nottingham Panthers.
Denmark are ranked 10th in the world and will arrive in the UK fresh from a memorable first appearance at a Winter Olympics earlier this year, as they reached the quarter-finals in Beijing before a 3-1 defeat by Russia.
Myers said: “Denmark are a top-class hockey nation, make no mistake about that.
“Their exploits in the Olympics this year showed how good they are and they are going to be two tough games for us this weekend.
“But, to be honest, it’s just the tough test we need to get us prepared for the World Championship.”
GB lost 3-1 to Italy on Thursday in Milton Keynes and will complete their preparations on Tuesday by facing the Italians in Coventry (7:30pm).
“We can take many positives from last night,” added Myers. “We have had some good battles with Italy in recent years and this was no different.
“It was great to see some of the younger players get ice-time and they did really well.
“Italy have been together for the past few weeks and that showed, so all things considered I think we can be content with last night.”
Tickets for GB’s remaining three games in the UK are selling very well. You are advised to purchase as soon as possible, especially for the Skydome tomorrow where ticket availability is extremely limited.
