Ice Hockey UK’s recently appointed Referee Chief Joy Johnston has hailed the first National Referee Conference in over a decade as an historic event.

Over 200 officials from all over the UK spanning newly qualified up to Elite League and IIHF referees spent an intensive weekend in Nottingham with a mix of classroom, fitness and on-ice sessions to prepare for the new season.

Guest speakers from the National Hockey League, USA Hockey and Swedish Association joined IHUK instructors to deliver seminars on a range of topics.

When the seminar room finally emptied on Sunday afternoon, Joy Johnston spoke to Ice Hockey UK TV to review the weekend and the new IHUK Referee Section.
