Great Britain Under-16s were beaten 5-1 by Jelgavas in their final group game at the Riga Hockey Cup in Latvia.

A superb piece of skill saw Brodie Kay go close for GB and moments later Kyle Carruth fired just wide, but Jelgavas went ahead through a long-range shot from Linards Ločmelis.

GB continued to look sharp going forward and Archie Salisbury was denied from the slot, before Kārlis Gustavs Mendziņš’ scored from the right circle to make it 2-0 to Jelgavas.

Oliver Wagg set-up Connor Lee as GB pushed for a way back into the game and Samuel Keeling hit the base of the left-hand post.

A solo goal from one end of the rink to the other by Martiņš Vītols followed by a wraparound from Andris Seļickis stretched the lead to 4-0.

But GB got the goal their pressure deserved as Joe Lynch’s shot from the slot deflected past netminder Oto Dimants.

Verners Veinbergs scored Jelgavas’ fifth when he reacted first to a loose puck to bury home a rebound.
