Ice Hockey UK held the first of three camps at Bracknell Ice Rink today that will help choose the Great Britain Under-18s and Great Britain Under-20s goalies for the 2020 World Championship tournaments.

In the past, goalies have been selected solely from the GB try-outs but Gary Brine, who is the Head of the GB Goaltending Development Programme, has tracked 10 goalies who he believes could represent the country at next year’s Worlds.

Today, he got a chance to see how they performed against some of Great Britain’s best young players.

Brine said: “Playing at a World Championship is unlike anything a club goalie would have experienced before and our selection methodology ensures that goalies are picked not from one camp, but from the entire season, try-outs and these specialist camps.”

Goalies came from as far away as Glasgow for the camp and Brine added: “The quality was very high and I was delighted with the commitment made by the players who travelled the furthest.”

IHUK would like to thank Mark Saunders, Steven James and Bracknell Ice Rink, as well as GB’s overtime hero in Slovakia Ben Davies, Erik Lindhagen, Richard Krogh, Mac Howlett, Josh Waller and Tommy Huggett.
