Glasgow Clan forward Mac Howlett believes Great Britain’s success in reaching the top flight of the World Championship can be an inspiration for the under-20s as they start their tournament this weekend.

The 19-year-old flew out with the rest of Slava Koulikov’s side for the World Championship Division II Group A tournament, taking place in the Estonian capital of Tallinn.

GB face hosts Estonia, along with Korea, Lithuania, Romania and Spain, from 13th to 19th January 2019 at the Tondiraba Ice Hall.

“What the senior men’s team did last year certainly helps to motivate he guys in trying to get a medal and maybe, in three or four years, some of our guys might be playing in that team,” he said.

“We only play five games so that first one is important in setting the tone and getting those points is important.

“We got a bronze last year so naturally, aiming for the top prize this time goes without saying.”

GB get their tournament under way on Sunday against Lithuania, while they play warm-up games against Korea this evening and Spain tomorrow.

All five of GB’s World Championship games are being shown on FreeSports.
