A unique Mother’s Day gift has turned into a potentially life-saving item for countless NHS heroes on the front line against COVID-19.

Elliot Dervish, who plays in NIHL South 1 with Chelmsford, has his own 3D Printing business and used this to produce a bespoke gift for his mum who works in the NHS at Basildon Hospital.

The plastic door-pull was designed to clip onto a keyring, with a hook to open doors, handles and push buttons – stopping his mum from coming into direct contact with potentially contaminated surfaces.

When his mum, Janine, took the gadget into work her colleagues took an interest and since then demand has reached senior NHS management looking to roll it out as widely as possible.

Elliot’s own business can produce around 100 per day but he is looking to scale up to meet a possible demand for several thousand of the items.

The 24-year-old, who has played over 150 NIHL games for Chelmsford, has launched a Go-Fund Me page to help with the costs of the operation to supply these to the front line workers.
