Ice Hockey chairman Rich Grieveson is to step down from his role with effect from 1st March 2021. The process for recruiting a new chair for IHUK will commence immediately.

Grievson said: “Over the past five years I have tried my very best as chairman of Ice Hockey UK to identify and drive improvements within our sport.

“During this period I believe we have evidenced success…
*IHUK now operates within revised and improved governance policies, reflecting best practice.
*The organisation has undergone a root and branch financial review and has implemented a new financial model. The result of which is that we no longer have any historical liabilities with international MNA partners and also now operate annually in the black with a very positive bank balance.
*We have successfully hosted a number of junior World Championship tournaments and hosted the first Men’s World Championship in the UK for over 25 years.
*We have implemented a new management process for the GB programme and have appointed Tony Hand as the GB development officer, who is now driving improvements.
*We appointed Joy Johnston as chief referee and supported her in fundamentally changing the officiating programme. Joy has implemented a first-class programme premised on producing high quality officials.
*Finally, the ultimate success saw the current GB men’s team promoted to the holy grail of Pool A on the men’s world stage. A quite remarkable achievement by Pete Russell and his fantastic team of staff and players.

“During my tenure as chairman, my main objective was to secure the required support and commitment to deliver a new, single national governing body for the sport that allowed for a co-ordinated and integrated governance and management model – the result of which would allow our sport in the UK to reach its maximum potential.

“Whilst this proposal received support from IHUK, the club members in Scotland and the majority of members in England, it did not receive the required 75% support from the EIHA membership, which would have allowed the sport to move forward in a unified way.

“Having driven this agenda as a core priority for five years and following the EIHA vote, I have taken the decision that the time is now right for me to resign as chairman of IHUK and allow someone with renewed energy and focus to take the sport forward.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank past and present board members and other strategic partners for their help and support over the past five years. I also wish to specifically thank Andy French who has consistently supported me and continues to deliver his very best for the sport on an international stage.”

Ice Hockey UK would like to thank Rich Grieveson for his hard work and dedication as chairman since being appointed in 2016.
