Great Britain Women kept up their 100% record at the World Championship Division II Group A in Maribor with a 5-0 victory over Mexico Women.

Netminder Samantha Bolwell secured a five-shot shutout as GB outshot Mexico 56-5, while the goals were shared around five different players.

GB lead by one at first intermission
Despite peppering 29 shots on netminder Monica Renteria, GB’s only had one goal to show for it in the first period.

Kim Lane reacted first to a rebound on the powerplay at 13:28 for her third goal of the tournament.

GB take control in period two
Mexico did not have a shot on goal in the second period and GB took control with two goals in under six minutes.

CJ Ashton pounced to a loose puck at 25:32, while Saffron Allen touched in on the doorstep after good movement on the powerplay (31:16).

Two quick goals seal victory
Britain wrapped up their third straight win with two goals in less than two minutes at the start of the third period.

Katie Henry netted her first goal of the tournament Рand the 32nd of her international career Рwhen she stepped out from behind the net to rifle the puck past Renteria (41:19).

Louise Adams followed up quickly with a spectacular goal of her own at 43:10, shooting high past Renteria to complete a comfortable win.

Smith: Great professional performance from the girls
GB Women head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “It was a professional performance from the girls which was great to see.

“There were good performances across the ice and I liked the way we didn’t lose our concentration.

“The girls played a true 60-minute game but credit Mexico who never stopped battling.

“We now rest this evening ahead of another big game tomorrow. ”

GB return to action tomorrow when they face hosts Slovenia at 8pm (7pm UK time).
