Jin Ok’s overtime winner proved the difference as Great Britain Women were beaten 3-2 by DPR Korea in their third game at the World Championship Division 2 Group A in Gangneung.

GB scored twice in less than two minutes in the third period to battle back from two goals down, but had to settle for their first point of the tournament.

Jong Su Hyo put away her own rebound at 37:54 (short-handed) to put DPR Korea ahead and Won Chol Sun made it 2-0 when she ghosted into the slot from the neutral zone on the powerplay (42:07).

A great skate from Casey Traill saw a chance created for Angela Taylor who buried the puck home at 49:52 and Leanne Ganney took the puck from the blueline into the slot for the equaliser (50:49).

Katie Marsden went so close to winning it in overtime, before Jin OK was credited with the game-winning goal following a mad scramble around Nicole Jackson’s net (61:59).

Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “Nobody likes losing and it’s disappointing.

“I am more disappointed because we took some risks. We were 2-0 down, took a risk and got the goal back.

“We got our heads together and the girls listened and we got back into the game.

“The game was going our way when we got back into it at 2-2, but we just didn’t finish it.

“We had the chances in overtime but we just did not get it done.”

GB Women return to action tomorrow when they face Slovenia Women at 4:30pm (8:30am UK time).
