Great Britain Women suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Korea Women in their second game at the World Championship (Division 2A) in Slovenia.

Korea netminder Shin So Jung secured at 21-shot shutout, while GB netminder Nicole Jackson turned away 33 of the 34 shots she faced.

The first period was scoreless with Korea outshooting GB 11-4 and having the better of the play

GB hit penalty trouble at the start of the second period and Ko Hye In netted on the powerplay (22:01) to put Korea ahead.

Great Britain then had to kill off three successive penalties and this time were outshot 11-8 in period two.

Session three saw GB have more possession but they failed to take advantage of three powerplays, including a spell of five-on-three.

GB took their timeout inside the final three minutes and despite initially going on the powerplay, took late penalties and had to end the game on the penalty kill.

Leanne Ganney was named GB’s player of the match.

Coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “We weren’t quite on it today and lost some of the battles on the ice.

“Korea were better than us and deserved their win. They were good all over the ice.

“It is a long tournament and there will be ups and downs.

“The important thing is we stay focused and put this result behind us quickly.”

There are no games at the tournament tomorrow and GB return to action on Tuesday when they face hosts Slovenia (7pm UK time).
