Great Britain Under-18 Women’s head coach Cheryl Smith says Sunday’s open trial in Sheffield shows how much talent there currently is in women’s hockey in the UK.

A total of 47 girls attended the trial at Ice Sheffield as GB continue their planning for the upcoming international season.

GB U18 Women will play in the World Championship (Division 1 Group B) in Krynica from 6th to 12th January 2018.

They will face hosts Poland, along with Australia, China, France and Denmark.

Smith said: “It was a fantastic day and it showed what great young talent we have at this age group at the moment.

“We will have some difficult decisions to make in the coming days as we put together a roster for the upcoming training camps.

“There were some new faces at the camp who hadn’t been to a trial before and there was some really talented players on show.

“It is great to see and it shows that women’s hockey in the UK is in a really healthy position at the moment.

“There is a real excitement around the group of coaches and we will have some big discussions now about selecting the squad.”
