Great Britain Under-18 Women’s second game at the international tournament in Budapest ended in defeat as they lost 11-0 to Poland Under-18 Women.

Period scores of 3-0, 4-0 and 4-0 saw Poland pick up their second win of the competition after they beat Spain Women yesterday.

GB’s Player of the Game was Bracknell Queen Bees forward Abbie Sylvester.

Coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “It was another tough game for the girls but they didn’t let their heads drop.

“The mistakes we made yesterday, we did not make today. We know what we need to work on and we have good time to do that.

“We knew it was going to be a hard tournament and this only highlights to the younger players where they need to be to compete on the international stage.

“We have used a number of girls from our Under-16s squad, with a number of our overseas players unavailable.

“This is about long-term development and it won’t happen overnight, but we are building in the right direction.

“As many of them are so young their hockey sense is very raw at the moment but, as happened last year, we know we need to get them to have an understanding of the basic fundamentals ahead of the World Championship in January.”

GB’s final game of the tournament is tomorrow when they take on Spain Women.
