Great Britain U18s completed their pre-tournament camp with a second successive game against the U18 Varsity team of Okanagan Europe.

Wednesday’s game in Bratislava saw GB start with Angus Laing in net, with Lewis Davies getting ice for the third period – meaning all three travelling goalies have played game time before the tournament.

GB were down 2-0 at the first break and saw Tyler Cooper have a penalty shot saved in the middle session.  Liam Kirk got Britain on the board late in the second period, and Chad Smith potted a second three minutes into the third, but Okanagan took the game away and ran out 7-2 winners in the end.

Head Coach Martin Grubb said after the game: “Tonight was not the result we wanted but the aim has always been to use these games to be ready for the championships and when we play Estonia.

“This camp allowed us to get valuable ice time and game time and we always knew we would have areas to develop. This doesn’t change what we are hoping to achieve and these two games against a very good team can only help us.”

The GB squad will leave Austria on Thursday morning and fly, via Heathrow, out to Korea to begin their World Championships against Estonia on Sunday (1300 UK time).
