Forward Chrissy Newman says Great Britain Women can take inspiration from the gold medal won by GB women’s field hockey team at the Rio Olympics this summer.

GB begin their bid to qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics tomorrow, as they face Mexico (9am UK time) in their opening game at the Olympic Qualification Preliminary Round 2.

They then take on Poland on Saturday and Kazakhstan on Sunday, with only the winners of Group G going through to the next stage.

“At World Championship tournaments there is always a great buzz, but this is something just a little bit special,” said Bracknell Queen Bees forward Newman.

“There’s a chance to do something special here and I think we can all say we take inspiration from the GB women’s field hockey team.

“They went and did it with a lot of hard work and determination – and you saw how they stuck together.

“We’ve got here, the rink is amazing and as a squad we are very happy.”
