Ice Hockey UK general secretary Andy French has paid tribute to Bob Wilkinson, who passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 74.

Wilkinson held various prominent positions within Ice Hockey UK and the English Ice Hockey Association and his ties with UK ice hockey go back more than 35 years.

After first becoming associated with the sport in Durham in 1982, he went onto serve on the boards of IHUK and EIHA, as well as becoming manager of GB U20s, GB U18s and Great Britain Women.

“It was Bob who got me involved with England, Conference and EIHA many, many years ago and I went on many trips with him,” said French.

“He always made people laugh. He also had the Sergeant Major side of him, but was like a little puppy with a big bark. Everyone had so much time for him.

“He done so much for Ice Hockey in the UK, especially junior hockey and the woman’s national team programme.

“His presence will be sadly missed at all the ice hockey tournaments throughout the year.

“I will miss him too for his weekly telephone calls. You can now get some rest that you deserve and watch over us all. RIP Bob.”
