An Ice Hockey UK EGM last night voted in favour of one new governing body for the sport of ice hockey in the UK.

The resolutions put forward were unanimously passed by the IHUK membership ahead of the English Ice Hockey Association’s AGM this weekend.

This outcome provides a firm and unequivocal commitment by both IHUK and SIH-UK to the process of forming a new single national governing body for our sport.

EIHA members are now voting on the proposal and voting members can now cast their vote online or at this weekend’s virtual AGM.

Sport England have given their backing to the new governing body with chief executive Tim Hollingsworth saying they “welcome the proposal to streamline the existing governing bodies by creating a single new NGB to govern the sport of ice hockey across the UK”.

The unified approach has always had the backing of the sport’s governing body, the IIHF.

Ice Hockey UK chairman Richard Grieveson has regularly updated the sport’s international governing body and has spoken with IIHF president Rene Fasel directly about the unification of the UK governing bodies.

In a letter to Richard confirming his support, Fasel said: “The current model is broken. It does not allow for clarity of role, with everyone working together to achieve an overarching vision and objective. I see your primary objective as president of IHUK to change and address this current position. It would appear you are making good progress and you have my full support.”
