The curtain was brought down on another successful IIHF World Championship in Dumfries.
GB Women secured the silver medal at the Division II Group A tournament at the Dumfries Ice Bowl, with Slovenia Women winning the gold medal and promotion, while sixth seeds Spain Women take home the bronze.
The tournament was the seventh to be held at the Ice Bowl and organised jointly by Ice Hockey UK and Dumfries & Galloway Council.
Councillor Adam Wilson, the council’s events champion, said: “Dumfries continues to shine in the eyes of the ice hockey world.
“The organisation, goodwill and atmosphere at this World Championship was exceptional, and the sport is going from strength to strength in our region.
“The dedication of our staff, volunteers and the Ice Hockey UK team to make this World Championship such a great success merits recognition.”
Andy French, general secretary of Ice Hockey UK, said: “The Great Britain team were delighted with the facilities and support they received to participate in this World Championship.
“All the players, from all the nations, appeared to enjoy the experience of playing in Dumfries and were buoyed by the hundreds of schoolchildren who attended the daytime matches.”
Dumfries and Galloway Council conducts economic analysis into the positive benefits hosting a World Championship brings to the region, over and above the promotion of ice hockey as a wonderful sport to watch and play.
The arrival of close to 200 players, coaches, officials and volunteers is a major boost to the accommodation sector in the town.
The World Championship takes place over seven days, which benefits local services, cafes and the promotion of the Ice Bowl itself.
The resulting economic impact, in immediate direct terms is in the region of £170,000.
