Forward Robert Dowd says playing for Great Britain is the ultimate honour and if they can win a World Championship gold medal it would take it to a new level.

GB need a point this afternoon against Ukraine to secure the gold medal and promotion to Division 1A.

Dowd said: “Playing for your country is up there with the best feelings, bar marrying your wife and having children.

“Winning a gold medal for your country would take it to a new level.

“This group of guys, when our backs are to the wall, the true team comes out.

“Everybody starts to fly, everybody starts to shine, so I think we are very ready for this game.”

GB had a chance for promotion last season and needed a point to take the gold medal in Eindhoven.

However, a final-day 3-2 defeat by Lithuania saw Korea go up and GB take silver.

“Everybody knows what is a stake and we all want to go one better than last year,” Dowd continued.

“That still stings a little bit. We came here to put ourselves in a position to win the gold medal and we have done that.

“So now we have to do and do it.”

GB against Ukraine faces-off at 1pm in Zagreb this afternoon (12noon UK time).
