The UK’s representatives in this season’s Champions Hockey League began with defeats on Thursday night.

Both Nottingham Panthers and Cardiff Devils played against much higher-ranked nations on the opening night of CHL action.

The Panthers, who played in the inaugural Champions Hockey League in 2014-15, put in a battling performance but were beaten 5-2 by Swiss champions Bern.

Cardiff, playing in the CHL for the first time, found life much tougher and were beaten 10-1 by HC Davos.
