Great Britain Men’s Universities were beaten 10-1 by USA at the 28th Winter Universiade in Almaty.

Liam Charnock, assisted by Chris Cooke and Ivan Antonov, scored GB’s goal on the powerplay at 17:02 in the first period.

Coach, Matt Bradbury, said: “It was a good team effort after having so much taken out of us the previous day versus Canada.

“We spent too long on the penalty kill and although we only conceded two powerplay goals, it affected the balance of the lines and wore us down.

“It was great for Liam (Charnock) to get the first GB goal and it was a great feeling to go in at the end of the first 3-1 down.

“We have a lot of work to do with two key games coming up it would be great to play for ninth and 10th place, although there is an organised, gritty and hard working Korea standing in our way.”
