The IIHF has confirmed the new dates for the qualifying rounds for women’s ice hockey for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics after they were postponed because of the pandemic.

The Olympic Pre-Qualification Round 2 takes place in Gangneung from Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th October this year.

It will be Great Britain Women’s second trip to Gangneung in four years after the World Championship Division II Group A was held there in 2017.

Cheryl Smith’s side will come up against hosts Korea, Slovenia and a qualifier from the previous round, which will take place in August between Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Iceland and Lithuania in Reykjavik.

GB will begin the four-team tournament on Thursday 7th October against the winner of the Olympic Pre-Qualification Round 1.

They will then face Slovenia on Saturday 9th October and round off the competition against hosts Korea on Sunday 10th October.

Two other Pre-Qualification Round 2 groups in Italy and Poland will take place at the same time, with the winners of each group progressing to Final Olympic Qualification in November.

Once again, there will be three groups and these group winners will join Canada, China, Finland, Japan, Russia Switzerland and the USA at Beijing 2022.
