Coventry Blaze defenceman David Clements says it would mean so much to him to play in-front of family, friends and his fiancé if selected for Great Britain’s international games against Denmark in May.

The two sides meet in Clements’ home town of Coventry on Saturday 7th May (7pm), before going head-to-head at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham the next day, Sunday 8th May (4pm).

Speaking with IHUK TV – in association with SMP Europe – Clements said: “I grew up as a young kid watching GB and the Blaze play games in the Skydome. I watched many games there, sitting in the stands and wishing it was me.

“It would mean a lot to me to play in-front of my family, friends and fiancé, who have never seen me in a GB shirt for men’s hockey or play for GB in Coventry. It would mean a lot to me and mean a lot to them too.

“To have that calibre of team to come across here and help us prepare for a World Championship is great.”

Clements made his GB debut at last year’s World Championship in Latvia, playing all seven games in Riga and he would love to be part of the roster again.

“It was obviously unbelievable to play that calibre of hockey,” continued Clements. “It is something I am always going to remember.

“It helped me grow in confidence and it’s something I have tried to take with me into my game this year with Coventry to give me the best shot of making the team this year.”

GB are in Group B of this year’s World Championship in Tampere and will face Belarus, Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Sweden and the USA later in May.
