Head Coach Mike Clancy says the “buy-in from the team and staff has been incredible” as Great Britain Women undergo their final preparations ahead of the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers at the National Ice Centre.

GB had a full day’s training camp yesterday and practiced on the same ice where they will step out on in Nottingham next month for their first game since the World Championship in Dumfries in April 2019.

Korea, Slovenia and Iceland complete the four-team group from 7th to 10th October, with the winners qualifying for November’s Final Qualification tournament for next year’s Winter Olympics in China.

“We followed much the same theme as our previous sessions,” said Clancy. “Hard work, positive compete and new learnings whilst continuing to develop the winning mentality needed to compete at international level successfully.

“It was great to catch-up with the squad for the final time ahead of entering into the team bubble for the tournament.”

GB had two on-ice practices on Sunday, as well as a classroom session along with strength and conditioning.

Clancy’s side begin the tournament against Iceland on Thursday 7th October followed by a match against Slovenia the following day, before facing Korea in the final game of the competition on Sunday 10th October.

“I’m excited to see the women compete in the Olympic Qualifiers hosted here in the UK for the first time in a more than fitting venue at the National Ice Centre,” said Clancy.

“There has never been a bigger opportunity to showcase the women’s game in the UK and a huge opportunity in promoting female sport equality when participating at this level.

“I am proud and excited to lead this group of athletes. The buy-in from the whole team, coaching staff and wider support group has been truly incredible.”
