Jonathan Phillips has been confirmed as captain for Great Britain, with Robert Dowd and Mark Richardson the assistant captains for the World Championship in Zagreb.

GB begin their Division 1B tournament tonight against hosts Croatia with an 8pm face-off (7pm UK time).

Head coach, Pete Russell, said: “These three are really experienced players and it is the same three as last year’s tournament.

“They have great leadership qualities and they are all respected in the dressing room.”

Sheffield forward Phillips said: “I am so proud to lead my country and I love the responsibility.

“We have a team of leaders in this room, so it really is an honour to wear the ‘C’ for Great Britain.”

Cardiff defenceman Richardson added: “I am thrilled to be asked to do this role again by the coaching staff.

“I love playing for my country, as do all the guys, and we are focused fully now on the week ahead.”

Sheffield forward Dowd added: “It is one thing to pull on a GB shirt, but to have a position of responsibility makes it extra special.

“I can’t wait to step onto the ice with these guys in our first game tonight.”
