Ciaran Long moves onto a tournament-high five goals as British players score six of the nine goals in Manchester Storm’s 5-4 overtime victory over Coventry Blaze in the 2021 Elite Series.
Craig Peacock gave the Storm the lead inside two minutes (1:49) before Luke Ferrara – playing his first game since returning from Europe in midweek – equalised for Coventry (3:38).
Long’s powerplay goal (17:46) ensured Manchester held a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
Joe Hazeldine scored his first top-flight goal to increase Storm’s lead once more (21:45), but Sam Duggan closed the gap to one at 26:42 (powerplay).
The Storm regained their two-goal lead 22 seconds later with Jacob Lundell Noer the man on target (27:04).
Tristan Keck scored at 48:03 to reduce the arrears for the Blaze again and, with netminder Jordan Hedley lifted in favour of the extra skater, David Clements tied the game at four with 34 seconds remaining (59:26).
Scott Simmonds scored the overtime game-winning goal (62:17) to secure Manchester their third victory of the tournament and top spot in the table.
Four teams – Coventry Blaze, Manchester Storm, Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers – are competing in the 2021 Elite Series at the National Ice Centre.
The event has been organised under the government’s Elite Sport Guidance, with regular testing and a full covid-19 protocol in place.
